Phonics

During the first half term while the children are settling in, we will be recapping phase 1 phonics playing lots of games relating to rhyme, alliteration and oral blending. We will also begin to introduce phase 2 phonics which covers all 26 sounds of the alphabet. During phonics the children enjoy joining in with singing and copying actions from the 'Jolly Phonics' song which can be accessed on YouTube. Please feel free to follow the link below if you would like to use this at home:

Reading

Please spend time at home fostering and embedding a love of books with your children by reading to them as much as possible. When reading with your children you can talk to them about how to handle a book for example, how to turn the pages and which way up to hold the book. You can also discuss with children where the words and pictures are in the book as well as the  front and back covers. This will give your child a firm foundation on which to build once they are ready to begin formally learning reading skills. At school we follow the 'Engage' reading scheme, these will be the books children will start to bring home once they are ready.
